Throw Me The Statue – Creaturesque

What originally started out as a solo project for Scott Reitherman, has turned into a full-fledged band ever since the release of his first album. They had a single called “Lolita” off of that album which got some airplay on college rock radio and that led to them signing to Secretly Canadian. And that my friends, is the label that is now releasing “Creaturesque”.

With the album being produced by Phil Ek (The Shins, Built To Spill, Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes), you kinda already know what you’ll get to hear on this disc… a wide variety of indie pop sounds. But unlike the other bands on Ek’s discography, Throw Me The Statue doesn’t leave enough of a lasting impression.

Sure, songs like “Snowshoes” and the Blur-like “Pistols” sound fun but once the album’s done there’s not a whole lot that’s left lingering.
Score: 6 out of 10
