John Hiatt – The Open Road

While it is true that John Hiatt releases pretty much the same album over and over again, he keeps getting better at it. So who are we to complain? On “The Open Road” the good man mixes blues and country in the sweetest of ways while telling us youngsters a thing or two about life.

Whether it’s the boogie in “Haulin’”, the cheesy schmaltz of “Wonder Of Love” or the downright nasty blues of “My Baby” that I could totally see Danko Jones cover, Hiatt proves he’s still got the chops to deliver a varied album that’s filled with kickass riffs and the man’s gravelly voice.

I don’t know about you but the next time I’ve got a road trip planned and the sun is shining, I’ve got just the soundtrack to go along with it!
Score: 8 out of 10
