According to founder Charlie Paulson (the bald guy from Goldfinger), he was thinking more along the lines of Chuck D and Shaft when he came up with the name Black President rather than of Obama but either way, he’s stuck with it now. Black President is rounded out by vocalist/guitarist Christian Martucci (Chelsea Smiles, Dee Dee Ramone Band), drummer Roy Mayorga (Nausea, Soulfly) and bassist Jason Christopher. Something of a supergroup to some I guess.
Musically this is pretty tight, aggressive punkrock without too much surprises but still… it gets the job done. Unfortunately I can’t get my head wrapped around the vocals which are as flat as Paris Hilton’s chest. They even manage to drain all the fun from “Watch You Drink”, a track that would’ve otherwise been undeniably catchy.
Nope, sorry but this has ‘missed opportunity’ written all over it.
