Shout Out Louds – Work
Being in a band fulltime has to be the best job ever. Sure, you have to work hard but you get to fly all over the world to play in places you’d otherwise never ever get to. And then when you’ve toured enough, you get to take a break and travel some more. Which is exactly what the Shout Out Louds did after a year of crisscrossing the globe to support 2007’s “Our Ill Wills”. Some of them went back to Sweden, another one thought LA was a solid destination and singer/main songwriter Adam Olenius went all the way to Australia. While there Olenius started writing again for what eventually become their third album, “Work”.
With the help of Phil Ek (Built To Spill, The Shins) this Swedish outfit managed to churn out a highly enjoyable album with slick, mellow guitar tones and danceable rhythms that channel some post-punk influences . On top of that Olenius managed to write lyrics that make The Smiths sound gay by comparison. And by gay I mean happy. Simply put, “Work” is a great album and fans of outfits such as Band Of Horses should wholeheartedly agree with that statement.
Score: 8 out of 10
