VA – Up In The Air OST
Not only is Up In The Air one of the best movies I’ve seen in recent months, it also boasts one of the best soundtracks in quite some time. Not a coincidence when you know that all of the songs are hand-picked by Juno director Jason Reitman who sees music as one of the characters in his movies.
Kicking it off is Sharon Jones along with the Dap-Kings with a cover of “This Land Is Your Land” which fits in nicely between oldies from CSNY (“Taken At All”) and Roy Buchanan (“Thank You Lord”). Representing our current generation are Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, the severely missed Elliott Smith and the up til recently unknown singer/songwriter Sad Brad Smith who steals the show with “Help Yourself”. All of this goodness is mixed in with the movie’s score by Rolfe Kent. It makes for a selection that’s not only meant as a movie by-product, it stands just as well on its own two feet.
Score: 8 out of 10
