Deadlock – Manifesto

On the follow-up to “Wolves”, Deadlock are going for an even more commercial sound. Picture metalcore with lots of pwetty pwetty female vocals and keyboards that wouldn’t look out of place on an Evanescence album and you’ve got it!

“Manifesto” is not a bad album per se though… these guys and one girl are good at what they do. Opener “The Moribund Choir vs. The Trumpets Of Armageddon” for instance starts off decent enough with a techno beat before becoming more aggressive until vocalist Sabine joins in with a catchy chorus. It’s just that every single song on the album follows the exact same formula and by song number four, I had heard about all I could take of those pwetty, pwetty female vocals. And not even the saxophone in “Fire At Will”, the rap in “Deathrace” or the Sisters Of Mercy cover of “Temple Of Love” could save thing from becoming utterly boring.
Score: 5.5 out of 10
