Los Difuntos – S/T
As soon as the instrumental opener “Rise Of The Deceased” kicks in with the soothing sounds of a standup bass and a theremin, I’m sold! Los Difuntos play psychobilly a la Tiger Army and Nekromantix with a healthy load of Rancid’s punk stylings mixed in. Hell, Matt Freeman even joins them on the song “Lucy”.
What they’re doing isn’t very original but they play their tunes with such passion and energy that you can’t help but get sucked in. While their material is firmly rooted in punkrock and psychobilly, they also like to mix it up a little… “Story Of Leon’s Downfall” starts off as a 50’s ballad whereas “Now I’m Gone” has a Swingin’ Utters vibe going on that I like. Highlight of the album for me personally is “You Don’t Know Me” with its chorus that I can see everyone singing along to at the band’s shows.
Wanna bet that their next album is coming out on Hellcat?
Score: 7.5 out of 10
