The Mansfields – named after the blonde bombshell/actress Jayne Mansfield – wear their influences on their sleeves. Take some rockabilly, mix it up with Ramones punk and throw some glamrock on top of that et voila… les Mansfields!
On “Cramp Your Style” you’ll hear them doing everything right including cool guitar licks, namedropping Elvis and The New York Dolls and using a sample from the Russ Meyer flick “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” but nowhere do they come up with a sound of their own. As long as these guys are happy with copying from the originals, fine by me but then please call your next album “Cramp Their Style”.
