The World/Inferno Friendship Society - The Anarchy and the Ecstasy

- by Christophe

Strange. I always thought this World/Inferno Friendship Society was some kind of reggae/ska-punk collective that would probably annoy the fuck out of yours truly.

Yes, I don't like reggae. Or ska.

Strange enough, to genuinely dislike this record would be rather silly. Especially for someone like me, who has a somewhat diverse taste in music.

Ska, yes, it's there. But there is also gospel, and big band, and punk, and some more exotic musical styles and rhythms... And the fusion of it all works like a charm, thanks to excellent vocals from Jack Terricloth and bass player Sandra Malak.

All in all, it's some kind of punk cabaret. Listening to this record is like watching the movie "Moulin Rouge" while drunk from a gallon of cheap wine, but without the hangover afterwards.
Score: 8 out of 10
