Scars On Broadway – S/T

First there was System Of A Down and when that band went on a hiatus, there was Serj Tankian’s solo album. And now there is Scars On Broadway, vocalist-guitarist Daron Malakian and – to a lesser degree - drummer John Dolmayan’s new pet project.
On their self-titled debut they prove that they are every bit as diverse, obnoxious and catchy as System Of A Down but without Tankian’s flair for the operatic. Which is not necessarily a bad thing as is proven right off the bat when the ridiculously catchy opener “Serious” kicks in. From there on it’s 14 more tracks of loud and nervous power chords, 80ies synths and great vocal melodies that you won’t be able to get out of your head after just one listen. SOAD fans need not think twice!
Score: 7.5 out of 10
