Jesse Dee – Bittersweet Batch

Al Green just called and he wants his songs back. Jesse Dee sounds like the sixties never really passed on “Bittersweet Batch”, an album he produced himself along with Jack Younger.

Of course, I still prefer a good retro record rather than a shitty new hype so there’s really no problem here. “Bittersweet Batch” is filled with the kind of soul and r&b (the real deal, not the crap they make nowadays) that would’ve been all over the airwaves the year was still 1969. Opener “Alright” sets the tone with “Around Here” creeping up behind it and providing a first highlight.

When smooching, Dee does equally great as can be heard on songs like “Remember Me” and “New Blades Of Grass”. It all sounds very sweet but the horns are amazing and on “Alive & Kickin” Dee rocks out which makes an already great album even better.

Your parents may have heard this kinda thing before, now it’s your turn. Good music is timeless as Jesse Dee adequately shows on “Bittersweet Batch”.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
