Where The Land Meets The Sea – Listen For The Gulls EP

Where The Land Meets The Sea is a new outfit that brings current and former members of Smoke Or Fire, Lock And Key, The Cold Beat and The Campaign For Real Time together under one lengthy band name. “Listen For The Gulls” is the band’s 5-song EP that bursts from the seams with synth-driven indiepop.

Just like Straylight Run they combine male and female vocals on opening track “Title Bout”. These come courtesy of Mike Vera and Nikki Dessingue who both do a great job. Personally, I would’ve liked to hear the two of them together more but that is not to be on the EP’s remaining tracks where Dessingue takes the lead.

The rest of the band does a great job of keeping things interesting with bouncy rhythms, synths, nice riffage and a very present bass rumble. There are plenty of comparisons possible but they always only refer to one single (part of a) song which I guess is a compliment for WTLMTS who prove that they are more than capable of coming up with a sound of their own.
