Simple Plan – S/T
Simple Plan is essentially a boyband disguised as a poppunk act. And never before were they so blatantly obvious about it as on their new self-titled album. Just check out “Your Love Is A Lie” which could’ve just easily been a Backstreet Boys song. But since it’s for a Simple Plan album they decided to throw in some guitars. Or how about “Generation”? Half hip hop, half guitars and probably one of the next singles. I think that last one is courtesy of producer Danja (Timbaland), one of the three producers that worked on this album along with Dave Fortman (Evanescense) and Max Martin (Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson).
This has absolutely nothing to do with punk but if you’re into pop music a la Good Charlotte or Avril Lavigne, you would probably want to pick this up even though the album is kinda heavy on the cheesy ballads. Songs like opener “When I’m Gone” or “Generation” are catchy enough though so I guess that evens things out.
Score: 5.5 out of 10
