Bricolage – S/T
Another fun band out of Glasgow? Big friggin’ surprise! Sounding like a less cuddly Belle & Sebastian or Franz Ferdinand without Red Bull, Bricolage will conquer a place in your heart after just one listen. A small one maybe, but a place nonetheless.
Their self-titled album is made up with the kind of songs that put a smile on your face, maybe even make you move your feet around a little. It’s safe music but still… They’re at the top of their game when they keep things upbeat and moving forward like in “Footsteps” and “”. Proof of the contrary is “Plots Are For Cemeteries”, which in spite of its clever title is nothing but a sappy ballad.
No, upbeat pop music is definitely the way to go for these guys. With plenty of fresh melodies. And a knack for vocal harmonies like in “6th Form Poet”. Don’t expect them to reinvent the wheel here, it’s a fun album that will do well on a sunny day. Nothing more but also nothing less.
Score: 7 out of 10
