Settle – At Home We Are Tourists
Settle is one of the more recent signings to the Epitaph roster and with “At Home We Are Tourists” they have just released their Epitaph debut. It’s not too shabby… most of the time they sound like an underaged version of Brand New with danceable beats and synths and weird noises.
They know how to write a catchy song, problem is that they feel like jerking their hooks in so many different directions throughout the album’s twelve songs that it gets a little tiring. It’s a mistake a lot of bands that start out tend to make while in search for a sound of their own. And it’s understandable. But come on, how can you follow up the explosive “Murder” with a whiny acoustic track like “Sunday, Morning After”? On songs like “Naked At A Family Function” or “Dance Rock Is The New Pasture” (sounds like Atom And His Package covering an At The Drive-In cut) they do prove however that they’re capable of a helluva lot more. So here’s to album number two!
Score: 6.5 out of 10
