When Closure in Moscow started out in 2006 in Melbourne, I doubt they were thinking that in three years time they would’ve signed with Equal Vision and moved to the States. But that’s exactly what happened after they released their debut EP “The Penance And The Patience” and started making some waves.
Recorded with Kris Crummett (Kaddisfly, Fear Before The March Of Flames), “First Temple” is a debut album by a band who fits right in between the Coheed & Cambria’s and Damiera’s on Equal Vision’s roster. With jagged guitar riffs and soaring vocals, a comparison with The Mars Volta (when they were still writing actual songs) isn’t too far-fetched either, except that these guys are way more accessible thanks to some Damiera-like danceable parts. Just check out “Sweet#hart” which sounds spastic as hell until the catchy chorus kicks in.
It’s not anything new but Closure In Moscow did record a debut album that wouldn’t look out of place wedged in between your copy of “De-loused In The Comatarium” and “In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth : 3”. If you don’t like frenetic guitars and high-pitched yelps, please shy away.
Score: 7 out of 10
