North Lincoln – Midwestern Blood
Time to dig up the term ‘Midwestern beer-belly despair rock’ again because it fits the bill perfectly when you’re talking about North Lincoln. This Michigan outfit already finished recording “Midwestern Blood” two years ago in between beer breaks but a bunch of setbacks held back the release of the album until now.
Take a shot of Jawbreaker and Samiam influences and slosh it all down with a pint of Hot Water Music’s raspy shouts and you’re looking at North Lincoln. They may not look like much right off the bat but when you’ve downed a couple, things are definitely looking up. Mid-tempo rock that’s steeped in melancholy yet still comes with enough punch showing they haven’t given up yet.
If there really is such a thing as the No Idea Records sound, chances are that North Lincoln embody it on tracks like “Weight Of The World” and “Bridge Jumper”. “Siblings” is another nice one and comes with plenty of feedback and additional female vocals. There’s plenty more to discover on “Midwestern Blood” and I’m already hoping that with the next album they won’t experience any more setbacks. They’ve had enougg of those yet they conquered them and have the album to show for it.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
