Jack Peñate – Everything Is New

What I still remember from Jack Peñate’s debut is well, absolutely nothing. Drawing a total blank here!Needless to say that the last thing on my mind was the good man’s second album. It’s called “Everything Is New” though and that’s exactly what it is. Second chances are rare but it’s only fair to say Peñate made good use of his.

The album kicks off with “Pull My Heart Away” which is immediately lodged firmly in your mind once you hear that sparkling guitar along with a catchy chorus. The title track is equally slick and comes complete with samba rhythms, almost as danceable as the single “Tonight’s Today” with its chanted chorus. Oh, and I skipped “Be The One”, another song that becomes instantly memorable when that brass section kicks in.

Peñate keeps up the party atmosphere throughout eight of the nine songs on here, only sounding slightly gloomy on “Every Glance” but hey, it’s bound to rain a couple of times during even the hottest of summers, right? Other than that this is the perfect soundtrack for a sunny day!
Score: 8 out of 10
