Coalesce – Ox

Sweet, they’re back! With “Ox” Coalesce not only prove that they’ve still got what it takes after nearly ten years, but that they can easily blow the competition clean out of the water as well.

Opener “The Plot Against My Love” still feels like a stampede aka vintage Coalesce. It’s hardcore, it’s sludge, it’s mathy and it’s pissed off as all hell. In one word? It’s Coalesce! Then some new stuff comes into play with Sean Ingram actually singing in “The Comedian In Question” giving the song a CKY-kinda twist. From that point on all bets are off. Things get even crazier than before and I’m loving every second!

There’s a little bit of blues kicking up dust in “Wild Ox Moan” and with “We Have Lost Our Will” there’s even room for an acoustic excursion before they hurl us back into the madness with “Questions To Root Out Fools”.

It’s as if there has never been a breakup, these guys gel together in ways that other bands can only dream of and tear every hardcore fan a new one. They can go back into hibernation for ten more years for all I care. I don’t need anything else from them other than “Ox”.
Score: 9 out of 10
