V/A – Transformers : Revenge Of The Fallen

What to expect from the album accompanying Michael Bay’s latest blockbuster where he blows a lot of shit up…

Lots of arena rock? Check! With songs by Linkin Park, The All-American Rejects and Avenged Sevenfold that’s taken care of. Never thought I’d see those three bands together on the same album!

What else… power ballads that ooze pathos from every pore? Check! Green Day’s “21 Guns” handles that part along with The Fray, Theory Of A Deadman, Staind and Cavo, a band I didn’t know yet. And based on their contribution I think I’d like to keep it that way. When there’s arena rock and power ballads, Nickelback can of course not be far and yes, they are featured here as well with “Burn It To The Ground”. And Hoobastank? Shit, are they still together?

Listening to this soundtrack, it’s as if I’m back in the mid 90s listening to a modern rock station. The movie at least still has Megan Fox to drewl over but this soundtrack has absolutely no redeeming qualities. No, not even The Used’s uninspired cover of “Burning Down The House”.
Score: 4 out of 10
