Poison The Well – The Tropic Rot

The album cover of Poison The Well’s latest album could be seen as simply an old holiday picture that serves to remind of good times had, but at the same time there’s something unnerving about it. The same can be said about the songs on “The Tropic Rot”. This time around everyone’s favorite progressive hardcore band sounds more accessible than ever with even more vocal melodies and even guitar parts that bring Foo Fighters to mind. Yet they can still sting when they need to and vocalist Jeff’s vicious growl is still in place as well.

“The Tropic Rot” sounds like the logical follow-up to “Versions” with these Floridians continuing to explore and incorporate new sounds into their brand brand of (post)hardcore. If you were a fan of their last albums, you’ll be all over this one. Especially seeing as everything sounds more organic this time around. Fans of “Opposite Of December” are better off sticking to that one and licking their wounds.
Score: 8 out of 10
