Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Moore- Dear Companion

Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore wanted to record an album to raise awareness of the state of the American mountains. If only they had achieved to write some proper songs that linger in our mind. Alas, they’re as transparant and forgetable as Britney Spears’ last claim for renewed fame.

Sure, the songs do touch our heart when listening to the album as the sun is slowly sinking into the horizon. But Sollee and Martin Moore should not be afraid to tread out of their comfort zone. The songs sound almost exactly the same: inspirationless and plainly dull. Only Try and Dear Companion tend to draw our attention, but it’s not enough to lift the overall unoriginal level of the album up. If they would only pay more attention to the quality of their songs than to those mountains, the album would be at least worth some more listens. It all sounds too soft, too American. That’s really too bad, because we can hear the musical potential. They could easily leave a more last impression, if they perfected the build-up of the atsmosphere. Now it is all too mellow. The musicians are too much distracted by the emotions the songs could emerge. But all that emerges from us, are continuous yawns.
