Elvis Jackson – Against The Gravity

I thought this was going to be some rockabilly album. Turns out Slovenia’s Elvis Jackson sound like a So Cal punkrock band from the nineties. They also aren’t afraid to throw in some ska or metal but mostly this is fast-paced punkrock a la Pennywise with a vocalist who can hold a tune.

The production was handled by Faith No More’s Billy Gould, the mix was in the capable hands of Rich Veltrop (Tom Petty, Rage Against The Machine) and the mastering was taken care of by John Cuniberti (Aerosmith, Dave Matthews) . That’s a lot of big names in one sentence but it shows… this album sounds amazing!

Of course shitty songs will remain shitty, no matter how much money you throw at them. But that’s not the case here… the songs on “Against The Gravity” are as good as any punkrock that got me hard in the 90s. That just raises one question… who is still waiting for a band that sounds like The Offspring or Unwritten Law? For these guys’ sake, I hope a lot of you still care.
