Veil Veil Vanish – Change In The Neon Light

From San Francisco comes a band whose name – if all goes well – you might soon see pop up next to Editors and The XX. Yes, “Change In The Neon Light” is another band that likes their pop music dark. Yet rather than sounding like a cheap Joy Division clone like so many other bands, these guys are actually worth listening to.

This not in the least because they are heavily influenced by British post-punk and new wave which gives them something extra. And yup, I agree… vocalist Kevin Tecon does sound a lot like Robert Smith which can’t count as a bad thing either. Throw in some very cool guitar licks, melodies that stick and a massive production job courtesy of ATOM (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and it make “Change In The Neon Light” the perfect soundtrack for a nightly drive through the city.
Score: 7 out of 10
