The Panicks were a garagarock band from the sixties, but never got to the same status as their fellow musicians. The songs truly represent the times of fun guitar tunes, somewhat psychedelic substances and easy-going nature.
Too bad the sound of the record isn’t up to date, the songs are not remastered. On the one hand it gives the album a raw sound, but on the other it’s like you’ve just gone for a swim and didn’t get all the water out of your ears. Apparently they were very loud for their days,
We hear a mixture of the Doors, the Kinks and The Beatles in songs like Each To His Own, You’re My Baby and Lots of Pretty Girls. The Panicks are no true poetic talents like Dylan, but we cannot help but put on our dancing shoes and move across the room. Work is a more challenging song, while Love You So makes us think of young girls cruising down the skate alley, blowing pink bubbles. In general the album consists of some decent tunes, but not enough variety to maintain our complete attention. They did not take too many musical challenges, but The Panicks do have a certain talent in making us want to sing along. If only the recordings were better, because they bring the best of the sixties together. You gotta love those dirty guitar solos. Raaaaawwwwr.
Score: 7 out of 10
