For a long time Aborted was Belgium’s finest grindcore band, maybe even Europe’s. But a lot of the diehard fans weren’t too happy with the band’s cleaner and more melodic sound on their Century Media debut “Slaughter & Apparatus : A Methodical Overture”. For those who thought the band would go back to their old sound after all the criticism, you’re in for a disappointment because on “Strychnine.213” Aborted simply evolves further and ends up sounding more like an extremely organised killer rather than some friggin’ maniac who’s giving himself a blowjob with the decapitated head of one of his victims.
Granted, the result doesn’t have a whole lot to do anymore with raunchy grindcore but these butchers do know how to play some pretty good death metal. I have no idea what songs like “The Chyme Congeries” or “A Murumur In Decrepit Wits” are about but I’m pretty sure it’s all about different ways to torture, maim or kill someone. All in a day’s work when you play in Aborted I guess.
