There’s been quite some hyping involved with Does It Offend Yoy, Yeah? in the UK. But that means pretty much nothing seeing as they hype a new band every week while thrashing last week’s darlings. So what is going on on DIOYY?’s debut “You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into”?
The album is off to a good start with “Battle Royale”. Even for non-dance lovers like yours truly. This kind of fucked up song built up around a beat and bleeps may remind me a bit too much of Justice to be called original, but I’m digging it nonetheless. Next up is “With A Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You”) which pretty much sounds like a Soulwax leftover with some Duran Duran guitars in it and single “We Are Rockstars”. They’re both still pretty good. As is the mellow Bloc Party-ish “Dawn Of The Dead”.
After those four songs however the conversation seems to be over and we’re treated to a bunch of songs that are downright crappy with “Attack Of The 60ft. Octopus” as an absolute low. Did they rush the album or do they simply fail to live up to the hype? I don’t know but one thing that is for sure… I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Would’ve been clearer if they had called themselves “Do I Bore You? Yeah!”
