Langhorne Slim – S/T
There’s a singer/songwriter hidden behind the Langhorne Slim moniker. His name is Sean Scolnick and he wrote some pretty decent tunes for his eponymous album. Sounding like a cross between Josh Ritter and Ike Reilly, Scolnick mixes soul, folkrock, country and blues to a quirky and catchy whole that is pleasing during some songs and simply irresistible during others.
He likes to keep things upbeat which is pretty much always a good thing in my book and rather than navel-gazing too much, he is happy with firing off a dirty blues riff while sharing some of his optimistic views on life with us. I’m seriously digging this album and while some of the songs here feel a little lighter than others, “Spinning Compass” and “Rebel Side Of Heaven” are just two of this album’s memorable moments.
Score: 8 out of 10
