Islands started out in 2005 after some dudes from a Canadian band called Unicorns decided to start something new. At first it was both Jamie Thompson and Nick Thorburn we called the shots together but when Thompson called it a day, Thorburn was left in charge on his own. Not that it affected the band’s sound a lot because as you can hear on “Arm’s Way”, Islands still knows how to write great pop songs with plenty of violin parts in them.
It may not sound as spontaneous or quirky as the band’s debut “Return To The Sea” but that’s fine by me because I felt they were overdoing it a little back then. 68 Minutes might be overdoing it just a little as well, especially because some of the songs could’ve easily been left off the album. But hey, “Arm’s Way” has some pretty decent songs to offer you so why not check it out when you have the chance.
Score: 6.5 out of 10
