The Saddest Landscape – You Will Not Survive
The Saddest Landscape has already been around since 2002 but went on an extended hiatus for a while. They resurfaced in 2008 and are now hitting back strong with their first full-length in seven years. It’s called “You Will Not Survive” and combined with the band name, you should know that this is not a happy go lucky kinda album.
These Boston/New York/New Jersey natives play a kind of screamo that was big in the late 90s… you know the kind… big on catharsis, full of despair. It sounds not unlike early Thursday mixed in with some Modern Life Is War. Vocalist Andy Maddox is the star here, screaming his lungs out and spitting his lines while the rest of the band is losing themelves completely in these post-rock soundscapes that simply explode from time to time. Listening to “You Will Not Survive” asks a lot from the listener but it doesn’t even come close to what these guys poured in it.
Score: 7 out of 10
