Superchunk – Majesty Shredding

With Merge Records being home to so many great bands, it’s easy to forget that owners Mac and Laura McMcCaughan play in a band as well. No worries though, with the release of “Majesty Shredding” they found a way to remind you that yes, they do still play in a band and yes, they are still very, very good at it.

Superchunk may not have been one of the biggest indie rock outfits back in the 90s but they were always one of the most fun to listen to. It’s something they haven’t lost and it’s not hard to pick up on the sheer pleasure that exudes from these songs. While the guitars are buzzing along nicely, the rhythms will sweep you up and drag you right into the band’s carefree melodies.

“Majesty Shredding” is the band’s first album in nine years and I do hope we won’t have that long again just so that the fiftysomethings they will be then can prove they still know how to rock. No, I’d like a steady flow of Superchunk coming my way from now on.
